Part 5 The Future of Rotavirus Vaccine Coverage
Researchers can use scientific evidence to influence policy by getting it into the hands of decision makers. In order to inform health policy, decision makers need data on disease burden, intervention impact, safety, and cost effectiveness. To support these efforts, the ROTA Council provided recommendations for key stakeholders, reports and guidelines from scientific bodies, and speaker presentations from technical symposiums.
ROTA Council Recommendations
By ROTA Council, 2015
To accelerate the introduction of life-saving, health-improving rotavirus vaccines, the ROTA Council recommends key stakeholders – in countries where these vaccines have not yet been introduced – undertake specific actions.

Rotavirus Vaccine Recommendations
By Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The ACIP provides advice and guidance to the Director of the CDC regarding use of vaccines and related agents for control of vaccine-preventable diseases in the civilian population of the United States.
WHO rotavirus position paper July 2021
2021
In accordance with its mandate to provide guidance to Member States on health policy matters, WHO regularly issues position papers on vaccines against diseases that have an international public health impact. These papers are concerned primarily with the use of vaccines in large-scale immunization programmes. They summarize essential background information on diseases and vaccines and conclude with the current WHO position on the use of vaccines worldwide.

Updated Position Paper on Rotavirus Vaccines
2013
This paper summarizes recent developments in the field, in particular the potential of rotavirus vaccines to further reduce mortality by employing more flexible immunization schedules. All WHO recommendations appear at the end of this paper and reflect those offered by SAGE.
Generic protocol for monitoring impact of rotavirus vaccination on gastroenteritis disease burden and viral strains
2008
This generic protocol outlines a uniform approach to monitoring the impact of rotavirus vaccines that can be modified by countries to meet their specific needs. The primary overall objectives of this protocol are to determine vaccine impact, determine, vaccine effectiveness and to monitor for possible changing strain patterns in vaccinated populations.
Guidelines for estimating the economic burden of diarrhoeal disease, with focus on assessing the costs of rotavirus diarrhoea
2005
The objective of these guidelines is to present a method for determining the costs associated with diarrheal disease in children under five years of age. Methods for estimating the costs from the viewpoint of the health sector and for society as a whole are explained.
Pneumonia and Diarrhea Progress Report
By International Vaccine Access Center
The annual report details the 15 countries with the greatest burden of under-5 pneumonia and diarrhea deaths, and their progress in implementing high-impact interventions outlined in the Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Pneumonia and Diarrhea.
Gap Analysis of Rotavirus Vaccine Impact Evaluations in Settings of Routine Use
By International Vaccine Access Center
This report describes the global state of rotavirus vaccine use and the availability of RVV impact evidence as of November 3, 2016 in countries routinely using rotavirus vaccines.
Rotavirus Vaccine Cost Calculator
By Path
The PATH team created a simple, Excel-based tool for assessing and comparing costs of rotavirus vaccination programs annually and for a period of 10 years with each rotavirus vaccine product available in the global market. It aims to help country-level policymakers compare products and estimate vaccination program costs for different rotavirus vaccines, exploring up to six different vaccine options at a time. This tool can be used by decision-makers, implementers, technical partners, and others in any country, whether or not the country is eligible for co-funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Vaccine Information and Epidemiology Window hub
By International Vaccine Access Center
VIEW-hub—an online, interactive vaccine information tool—allows users to instantly visualize data about vaccine introductions, product usage, dosing schedules, access, coverage, and more for a number of vaccines. Custom queries and maps, exportable data and graphics, and a map gallery are just some of the interactive features users can access. IVAC publishes quarterly reports on Global Vaccine Introduction and Implementation from VIEW-hub.
Market Information for Access to Vaccines (MI4A)
By WHO
The MI4A vaccine purchase database (former V3P) contains information on vaccine prices, volumes, manufacturers, procurement modalities, contract length and more as reported by over 150 countries through the WHO/UNICEF Joint Reporting Form. The database is updated every year. Information on Covid-19 vaccine purchases is also available and updated on a monthly basis.
The Vaccine Resource Library
By PATH
The library gathers top immunization resources in a single website and offers high-quality, scientifically accurate materials on specific diseases and topics in immunization addressed by PATH’s work. The database can be filtered to specific parameters.
State of the Field Report
By PATH
This report titled ‘Stop the Cycle of Diarrheal Disease’ explains the various challenges, solutions, and future path of diarrheal diseases. The basics of diarrheal disease can be obtained through the overview of the report, and the specifics such as information on vaccines or for mothers that are breastfeeding can be obtained here as well.
